The head of PRODUCE, Sergio González, indicated that, until now, these downloads would have meant a contribution of 0.28% to the GDP and an added value of S/ 219 million.

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) confirmed the unloading of 1,048,031 tons of anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) resources for indirect human consumption of the first 2024 fishing season in the North-Central zone, according to statistics updated as of May 6.

The head of PRODUCE, Sergio González, highlighted that this figure is equivalent to 42.34% of the 2,475,000 tons of quota assigned for the season that began on April 16.

Likewise, he stated that it would have generated a contribution of 13.1% to the Fishing GDP, equivalent to an added value of S/ 219 million (USD 58.6 M), and a contribution of 0.28% to the national economy in aggregate terms (GDP) throughout the productive activity.

“In terms of exports, it has been contributing 18.9% of fishing shipments outside the country, equivalent to USD 564 million in foreign currency for the country,” he added.

Likewise, he specified that the extractive activity would have demanded around 11.8 thousand direct jobs and 36.2 thousand indirect jobs throughout the chain of extractive fishing activity.

By areas and vessels

On the other hand, Minister González added that the ports where the highest landing volumes have been recorded are: Malabrigo, Chimbote, Callao, Coishco and Chancay.

According to the fishing progress, it should be considered that the steel fleet (DL 25977) registered a discharge of 770,319 tons; meanwhile, the wooden fleet (Law 26920) reached 277,712 tons.

“In the first 21 days of the anchovy fishing season, landings have been occurring at an average rate of 49,906 tons per day. We consider that, so far, the tasks are going very well and we hope that they continue until the maximum allowed quota is reached and allow greater income for the country and the fishing sector,” he concluded.
